GRANTS

1. American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation Core Grant—Leslie Bernstein Investigator Development Grant, 6/10/04 – 6/10/08 Functional rhinoplasty: A multicenter prospective outcomes study

My research interests lie in three main realms

1. Outcomes and quality of life measurements for facial plastic and reconstructive patients. Currently I am coordinating a multicenter study to determine QOL in patients undergoing functional nasal surgery for fixed obstruction.

2. Evidence-based verification of effectiveness of facial plastic and cosmetic surgical procedures. Through cadaver studies and clinical studies, I hope to provide objective evidence with which to support or modify established techniques used in rhinoplasty, aging face surgery, and local flap reconstruction. Our current study in human cadavers examines the concept of pivotal restraint in transposition flaps as an impetus to modify the design of a commonly used bilobed flap reconstruction pattern.

3. Quantification of aesthetic canons used to guide facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Our current study seeks to test established guidelines for various “desirable” facial aesthetic measurements against current opinions across different ethnicities and ages of observers.
