Kybella^® is a non-surgical way to remove submental fullness, also known as the “double chin.” In our San Francisco office, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, Lisa Leung uses this prescription medication to treat patients who want to reduce the fat below their chin and enhance their profile.

How it works

Kybella^® is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps break down fat. When injected into the fat under the chin, Kybella^® permanently destroys the fat cells there. Your body’s natural metabolism then processes the fat and clears it from the treatment area.

What to expect

Optimal results are typically achieved after a series of 3-4 treatments, spaced about 6 weeks apart. Each patient is different, and so will have a unique treatment plan. Your plan, as well as your results, will be based on a variety of factors, such as: age, skin quality, and the amount of fat under your chin. Lisa will customize your treatment based on your particular anatomy and desired goals.

The advantage of Kybella is that it is completely nonsurgical and minimally invasive, leaving the top of the skin intact. There is no need for anesthesia, and after your treatment you can return to your normal activities. However, you will want to plan for potential redness, bruising swelling, and tenderness.
