Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that improves a variety of skin imperfections, including acne scars [link to acne scars page], surgical scars, wrinkles and “dull” or “tired” skin. Compared to traditional laser resurfacing techniques, microneedling has the benefit of less downtime and less risk, yet real results. Microneedling is also safe to use on all skin types, as it does not involve light, lasers, or heat, and therefore does not carry the same risk of hyperpigmentation.
How It Works
In our office we use CosmoPen, which is a medical grade, high speed microneedling system. CosmoPen microneedling stimulates the body’s own production of new collagen for healthier and fresher looking skin. Additionally, the micro-channels created by applying the microneedling device over the skin allow specific topical serums to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin for optimal rejuvenating results.
The In-Office Treatment
Prior to your treatment we will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to reduce discomfort during the treatment itself. The actual procedure is fast, nearly painless, and relatively inexpensive, making it a popular choice amongst our patients. We recommend a series of 3-6 treatments, spaced approximately 2-4 weeks apart for best results. Treatments are tailored to the patient’s individual goals and skin condition.
After treatment your skin may be pink for about 1-3 days. Most patients can return to regular social activities within a day or two. We encourage patients to resume skin care with gentle, hypoallergenic products and sun protection immediately. A medical-grade growth factor serum, such as SkinMedica TNS Recovery Complex [link], will help speed recovery and improve overall results.
Improvements in fine lines, texture, tone, and the appearance of scars can become apparent over days to months after the treatment. Your body will continue to produce new collagen in response to microneedling for 6+ months after your treatment.
